Easily-Forgotten Pictures That Are Important To Take After An Auto Accident

Posted on

You have just had an auto accident, your car is damaged, and your nerves are rattled. It is hard to think clearly at this point, but this is the most critical time to collect evidence at the scene of an accident in case you have to talk to an auto accident injury attorney later on. If you have a camera-equipped phone on hand, get a bystander to snap some pictures or take some yourself if you are physically able to. Here are a few pictures that you really should get that are often forgotten.

The position of other vehicles not damaged.

If other vehicles had to come to a stop, swerve, or otherwise make maneuvers to avoid having an accident, and those vehicles stopped at the scene, it is a good idea to quickly snap a pic of these vehicles. The picture should clearly show the position of the vehicles in relation to the vehicles that have actually been damaged. A lot of insight can be reaped by looking out how other vehicles maneuvered to avoid a collision with the cars that were actually impacted. For instance, if there has been a rear-end collision, the third following car may have swerved off to the shoulder to avoid rear-ending the second car in front of them.

The tire marks on the ground.

Tire marks prove something very important at the scene of a collision; they prove that at least one driver was applying their brakes suddenly to avoid a collision. If there are any tire marks at all on the roadway surrounding the accident site, go ahead and get a picture of these markings. In some cases, these marks can prove that one driver was trying to avoid an accident because of the other driver's behavior.

The surrounding traffic lights and traffic-directing signs.

Traffic signs and traffic lights are often thought to be all the same, but they can vary from city to city. In the event you do have to take your claim to court, it will be important that you can show specifically what types of traffic-directing signage and lights were involved in the whole incident. For instance, if another driver made a left turn when an arrow light was red, it will be helpful to have a picture of the arrow light setup on the traffic lights so you can easier describe the situation.
